The Community Creative Centre for Women and Girls with Disabilities (CCCWGD) is pleased to participate in the UN Women Soilless Agriculture Project, alongside other women in Bamenda, to build practical skills in innovative and climate-smart food production.
Through the project, members of CCCWGD are learning how to transform discarded plastic bottles, tyres, and household organic waste into useful resources for urban farming. The initiative introduces participants to practical and sustainable techniques that can be adapted to homes and communities with limited space.
Participants have gained hands-on knowledge in composting, container gardening, vertical farming, and drip irrigation. These innovative approaches make it possible to grow food in spaces where conventional farming may be difficult or impossible.
According to environmental trainer Dr. Agbor Ebai Maurice Tambe, the training is helping participants to “manage their waste and be able to have food in their homes.”
For women with disabilities, the skills acquired through this project go beyond food production. They create opportunities to improve household food security, reduce food expenses, generate income, make productive use of limited spaces, and strengthen household resilience.
The project also contributes to environmental protection and climate change adaptation by promoting responsible waste management, recycling, composting, water conservation, and sustainable urban agriculture.
At CCCWGD, we believe that women with disabilities must be meaningfully included in climate action, food security initiatives, environmental sustainability, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Through initiatives such as the UN Women Soilless Agriculture Project, women are gaining the knowledge and skills to turn challenges into opportunities and limited spaces into productive gardens.
Together, we can turn waste into opportunity, skills into livelihoods, and small spaces into sources of food and resilience. 🌱💚
