The Community Creative Center for Women and Girls with Disabilities (CCCWGD) continues its commitment to improving the lives of women and girls with disabilities through humanitarian interventions aimed at promoting dignity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Recently, CCCWGD extended support to Masebline, a 23-year-old young woman living with severe mobility impairment and multiple disabilities resulting from muscular dystrophy. Masebline resides in Mbelewa, Nkwen, Bamenda III Sub-Division and has faced enormous challenges throughout her life. She lost her father approximately six years ago and became disabled during her early years in secondary school, forcing her to abandon many of her dreams and aspirations.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Masebline and her family have demonstrated remarkable resilience. Her elderly mother remains her primary caregiver and shoulders the daily responsibility of assisting her with mobility and personal care. Due to their limited resources, Masebline had been spending her nights sleeping on a hard wooden chair, a situation that caused considerable discomfort and further compromised her health and well-being.
Recognizing her urgent need for proper bedding and comfort, CCCWGD recently donated a modern bed, mattress, pillows, blanket, and a set of bedsheets to improve her living conditions. This intervention has significantly enhanced her comfort, dignity, and quality of life by providing her with a safe and suitable place to rest.
This support follows an earlier intervention by CCCWGD, during which Masebline received a wheelchair to facilitate her movement within and around the home. The wheelchair has helped improve her mobility; however, significant challenges remain. The family’s home and surrounding environment are not disability-friendly, making movement difficult and limiting her independence.
One of the most pressing needs is the construction of an access ramp at the entrance of the family home. The current doorway and access route are not accessible for wheelchair use, forcing Masebline’s aging mother to physically carry her whenever she needs to move in or out of the house. This situation places a tremendous physical burden on the caregiver and exposes both mother and daughter to potential injuries.
CCCWGD therefore appeals to compassionate individuals, organizations, philanthropists, and development partners to support this worthy cause. Assistance towards the construction of a wheelchair-accessible ramp and the improvement of the surrounding environment would greatly enhance Masebline’s independence, safety, and social inclusion. Such support would also ease the burden on her elderly mother and contribute to creating a more accessible and dignified living environment.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the life of Masebline and many other persons with disabilities who continue to face barriers to accessibility and inclusion. Every contribution, no matter how small, can help restore hope, dignity, and equal opportunities for those most in need.
